WHAT'S IN THE BOTTLE? Mashbuild Bourbon, Batch 12

Batch 8 is a beautiful combination of young and old; sweet and spicy

All Mashbuild bourbon is solera-aged, meaning that barrels of similar ages are grouped together in a common “layer” of the solera.

The oldest and youngest layers of the Mashbuild Solera each contribute 20% of the whiskey that went into Batch 8 with layers 2-7 each adding 10%. This produces a big, bold, bourbon with a spicy finish.

In the solera aging process, as whiskey is used, barrels are backfilled with stock from the next layer up and new stock is added to the top layer. In this fashion, younger spirits take on more mature flavors and the average age of stock in the solera always increases over time.

We hear time and again that this is the bottle that first introduced people to Mashbuild and remains high among their favorites.

WHAT'S IN THE BOTTLE? Mashbuild Bourbon, Batch 7

TASTING NOTES:

WITH HINTS OF

Batch 7 was created using more of the middle layers of our Solera and less of the young and older layers. This created a rounder palette with less bite.

All Mashbuild bourbon is solera-aged, meaning that barrels of similar ages are grouped together in a common “layer” of the solera.

In batch #7, both traditional and new mash bills are added from Colorado, Kentucky, Indiana and South Carolina, using sweet corn, bloody butcher, and dent corn to create these newer bourbons. All nosed and tasted to make sure all ingredients are compatible with the other bourbons in the solera.

WHAT'S IN THE BOTTLE? Mashbuild Bourbon, Batch 1

Our first batch in a different approach to bourbon

When we set out to create our first Mashbuild bourbon, we had few ideas about what i should be. First, we loved the idea of aging our whiskey in a solera, where the flavors would be constantly evolving and where we could ultimately create a wide variety of expressions.

Second, we wanted our customers to understand EXACTLY what they were drinking. So we printed the breakdown of what was put in that batch right on the front of the label:

  • 6%: 17yr. old, 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley
  • 1%: 15yr. old, 60% corn, 36% rye, 4% malted barley
  • 4%: 13yr. old, 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley
  • 39%: 11 yr. old, 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley
  • 39%: 10 yr. old, 80% corn, 10% rye, 10% malted barley
  • 4%: 3yr. old, 100% Colorado sweet corn
  • 2%: 3yr. old, 100% Northeast bloody butcher corn
  • 5%: 2yr. old, 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley
